OKAVA Pharmaceuticals: Bringing Human Medicine Advances to Pet Health

What if advances in human medicine could also improve the health and longevity of our pets?

That is the question OKAVA Pharmaceuticals is exploring.

A Propel(x) portfolio company, OKAVA develops medicines for dogs and cats. The company adapts proven human therapies and drug-delivery technologies for veterinary medicine.

Its approach connects pharmaceutical innovation with the growing need for better treatments for companion animals.

Developing New Therapies for Pet Health

OKAVA focuses on several important areas of animal health.

Its pipeline includes programs for obesity, metabolic conditions, diabetes, and immune-mediated inflammatory diseases.

The company aims to use existing pharmaceutical knowledge to develop new treatment options for dogs and cats.

Advancing OKV-119 for Dogs and Cats

One of OKAVA’s key programs is OKV-119.

The company is developing this long-acting GLP-1 therapy for obesity and metabolic conditions in pets.

In December 2025, the first cat received a dose in the MEOW-1 clinical study. The study evaluates OKV-119 for feline obesity and diabetes.

OKAVA has also expanded its collaboration with Vivani Medical. The partnership focuses on developing OKV-119 for dogs.

The program targets metabolic health and longevity in canine patients.

Earlier research from OKAVA showed months-long exenatide drug delivery in cats using the OKV-119 system.

This research supports the company’s work on long-acting drug delivery for pets.

Expanding the Pipeline

OKAVA is also developing OKV-1001.

The program targets immune-mediated inflammatory conditions in dogs.

Together, these programs show the breadth of OKAVA’s work in veterinary medicine.

The company is exploring treatments across both metabolic and inflammatory conditions.

Connecting Human Medicine and Pet Health

Human medicine continues to advance in areas such as drug delivery, metabolic health, and chronic disease treatment.

Some of these advances may also have applications in veterinary medicine.

OKAVA’s human-to-pet approach explores that opportunity.

By adapting human therapies for companion animals, the company aims to address important health needs in dogs and cats.

The Growing Opportunity in Veterinary Medicine

Pets play an important role in the lives of millions of families.

As veterinary medicine advances, pet owners are also looking for better ways to manage chronic and complex diseases.

OKAVA is working at the intersection of these trends.

Its approach could open new possibilities for treating diseases that affect companion animals.

We’re proud to see CEO Michael Klotsman, along with the OKAVA team, continue advancing its pipeline and bringing new approaches to pet health.

Congratulations to the entire OKAVA team on its continued progress.
