Sonavex Advances Automated Ultrasound for Vascular Monitoring

Monitoring vascular health can be challenging for care teams. Traditional ultrasound often depends on the skill and experience of the person performing the scan. This can make consistent, quantitative monitoring difficult in busy clinical settings.

Propel(x) portfolio company Sonavex is developing technology designed to make vascular monitoring more automated and accessible at the point of care.

The company combines bioresorbable markers with automated ultrasound software through its EchoMark® and EchoSure® platforms. Its approach is designed to help care teams perform quantitative vascular assessments at the bedside.

Advancing Point-of-Care Vascular Monitoring

Sonavex’s technology is designed to make vascular monitoring more systematic.

Its platforms combine proprietary hardware with automated ultrasound software. This can help reduce some of the operator dependence associated with traditional vascular imaging.

The goal is to give care teams a more consistent way to monitor vascular access and identify potential problems earlier.

This is especially relevant for patients receiving hemodialysis, where maintaining a functioning vascular access site is critical to ongoing treatment.

New Funding Supports Continued Growth

Sonavex recently raised an additional $3.1 million in July 2026, following its $15 million Series A-2 round.

The additional funding supports the company’s continued commercialization and clinical efforts.

With this capital, Sonavex is continuing to advance its point-of-care platforms while expanding its clinical and regulatory work.

Progress in the MAFASA Pivotal Trial

Sonavex is also advancing its clinical program through MAFASA, a randomized pivotal trial being conducted under FDA IDE clearance.

The trial is evaluating whether the company’s technology can improve arteriovenous fistula (AVF) maturation outcomes in patients undergoing hemodialysis.

AVF maturation is an important part of preparing vascular access for dialysis. When access does not develop properly, patients may require additional procedures or other interventions.

Sonavex’s approach is designed to support earlier and more consistent monitoring during this process.

Making Vascular Monitoring More Proactive

Vascular access problems can lead to additional procedures, higher healthcare costs, and disruptions to patient care.

Earlier detection could give care teams more time to respond.

This is where automated monitoring could play a role. By making vascular assessments more consistent and easier to perform at the bedside, Sonavex aims to help clinicians take a more proactive approach to vascular access management.

The company’s work also reflects a broader shift toward point-of-care technologies that can provide useful clinical information without relying on complex imaging workflows.

Combining Hardware and Software

Sonavex brings together two key components in its approach.

EchoMark® uses proprietary bioresorbable markers designed to support vascular monitoring. EchoSure® combines these markers with automated ultrasound software to help generate quantitative measurements.

Together, the platforms are designed to help care teams monitor vascular changes over time.

This combination of bio-integrated hardware and software is central to Sonavex’s approach to point-of-care vascular care.

Looking Ahead

Sonavex continues to advance both its clinical and commercial programs.

Its progress in the MAFASA pivotal trial, along with additional funding, supports the company’s work toward bringing automated vascular monitoring into more clinical settings.

As healthcare providers look for ways to make monitoring more consistent and proactive, technologies that simplify point-of-care assessment could become an increasingly important part of patient care.
