Registration is the process which a company goes through to be able to sell shares of its stock in the public markets.  A company will file a registration statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) covering shares of its stock, and when the SEC approves the registration, these shares can be sold on a stock exchange.
